Sketches from the Top of the Hills – coming soon

Sketches from the Top of the Hills is a music documentary and an EP featuring a collection of live songs that were filmed at my residence in Landour. The film was put together by Romil and Aman Singh. Romil, who directed and handled the sound, along with Aman, the cinematographer, spent time with me here on the hillside last year during the monsoon months. Having witnessed the seasons and the beauty of the hills, and with no real vision to begin with, I’m sure they were quite struck by the natural surroundings that I keep talking about all the time.

We did not begin with a detailed plan. I had simply asked them to come and spend time here, to record some of the music I was writing in the space that shapes it. Perhaps that is what makes the film feel real and organic.

The first day was mostly walking what I consider my backyard, the many trails around me. Slowly sharing these surroundings with them before the cameras were even properly rolling. By the end of that weekend, it became clear that the film was the most honest way to present both the songs and the life around them.

We are quietly excited to finally share the film with you soon. Having worked with both Romil and Aman before, including at Sofar Patna, I knew the strengths they bring and trusted them completely. What they have captured feels intimate and true.

It is a small window into my life here. Just a weekend from last year.
